About this Month's Guest Lecturer

Dr. Carol Karp completed her undergraduate education and medical school training at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Karp went on to complete her ophthalmology residency training at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan. This was followed by a fellowship in Cornea and External diseases at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Karp subsequently joined the faculty at Bascom Palmer in 1994, where she has pioneered the use of interferon for the treatment for ocular surface squamous neoplasia and use of ultra-high resolution OCT as an ‘optical biopsy’ in the diagnosis of these tumors..

Among the significant recognitions, Dr. Karp has received the honor of being voted one of America’s Best Eye Doctors by Newsweek in August 2021. She was named on the 2021 Power list as a top 100 woman in ophthalmology, by The Ophthalmologist, and previously was on the 2019 Power list as one of the top 50 most influential ophthalmologists. In addition, she was given the 2019 Shaler Richardson, MD, Service to Medicine Award from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, recognized for greatest personal contribution to quality ophthalmic patient care. In addition, she was honored with the Senior Achievement Award and the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) for her accomplishments and service to the AAO, where she served on numerous task forces, and regularly teaches at the annual meetings. 

A leader in ocular surface oncology, Dr. Karp’s research primarily focuses on the diagnosis and management of ocular surface tumors. Dr. Karp has produced several landmark articles on the topic.  She has numerous honors and awards, as well as many publication credits.

There is no registration fee for attendees who are COS members or are residents/fellows in training. Pre-registration is required, however.
